USEFUL ONLINE APPS - Mondly, Duolingo, Memrise, Busuu

It’s been a long time since I haven’t seen you because of the busy days with numerous homeworks, however here we are together again! 

Today I want to talk you about some useful online smartphone apps that are developed for language learning! Since these kind of applications are both entertaining and educating, they can be used by both teachers and learners very effectively. However, they are mostly for individual learnings. The applications about which I’m posting today are Memrise, Busuu ,Duolingo and Mondly. All of them may be found on both IOS and Android. 

MONDLY

Mondly, as a language learning app, works in a gamified method and provides classes under three main subsections which are ‘Lesson, Conversation and Vocabulary’. With the daily lessons it provides, it shows a learner’s progression and kind of informs about how their language learning process goes! It offers 33 languages for its users to acquire with the help of even course materials, augmented reality and chatbots to practice a language as much as possible and finally master it!  It’s unfortunately not free completely, yet you can use the the part ‘Hello’ without any price. The topics you can unlock with a premium account are Core Vocabulary, Family, Countries & Languages, Romance ,Seasons & Weather Preparing a Trip Travel Vacation Activities Public Transportation Food & Drinks, School , Sports, Pets and many more...

It reminds you to follow your daily lessons with notifications! :) In the classes, for example ‘translation’ is focused and done through typing, speaking and selecting the words from the list. Long story short, this app may be very useful for you, especially if you have the opportunity to pay and buy the premium version of the app since it provides more. 

DUOLINGO

In today’s world, this app is the most popular language learning app and is thankfully free. It can be used on phones, tablets or desktop. By covering over 20 different languages, it uses gamification to make foreign language learning exciting and addictive! Both beginners and language hobbyists use Duolingo and learn the languages with the lessons that are including ‘reading’, ‘writing’ , ‘speaking’ and ‘translating’ exercises. It records each learners progress and encourages them to keep on studying the language regularly by sending notifications. It also includes competitive games for learners to play with their friends. In short, Duolingo enhances language learning by turning it into a game ,while trying to earn points and ‘level up’ in the game many users advances their language knowledge. 

MEMRISE 

This application is also so useful for language learning that, it even won an award. Since it’s free and can be used offline, it is pretty user friendly. At the moment , this app offers 20 language options for the the people who download it. Within the lessons it provides, users can learn or enhance their learnings by reading , writing an speaking activities. It includes a number of  vocabulary and memory games as well. Thus, it can be said that it makes learning more efficient and joyous. In the program, there are thousands of videos that are prepared by the native speakers of the foreign languages. Hearing the language will help learners improve their pronunciation and speaking skills. Plus , this app utilizes chatbots that’s allowing users to practice communicating. 

BUSUU

This one is also a free language learning website. The purpose of this app is actually connecting learners with native speakers from whom they can learn. In addition, it gives people access to interactive resources to help them improve the language. There are lessons for any level in this platform.
